Loud, graphic and unapologetic,
— Sara Estes, the tennessean
.....zany, expressionistic multimedia drawings express feminist ideas through colorful imagery and smart-ass text.
— joe nolan, nashville scene

Frances Berry‘s somewhat kaleidoscopic collages are unlikely to put you at ease. An extrovert’s dream come true,...Repeating motifs—the striping pattern from an umbrella, faded and partial body parts, impossible reflections give the images a sense of odd surrealism. But when the water looks this inviting, it tempts you to give up on those old fashioned notions of reality… and just jump in!.

Frances Works

Every piece starts with very little consideration.  A blank surface, a few initial marks, stand back and consider, desperately fight the urge to start over again, proceed.  Each mark solves problems presented by the marks made before it then immediately becomes a question which requires more marks....you see the pattern... finishing a piece requires me to leave one unresolved mark otherwise it would be the song that never ended and who has time for that.

Frances Talks, about nothing at all ....all of the time.

I bet you thought finding frances would be a bit more......fireworky?... ok perhaps that is a drastic over estimation of peoples expectations of me but can't one aspire to be fireworky? Isn't that what its all about?  Confused? Annoyed? Feeling a bit like you are running through the woods at night wearing a blindfold?  Many of you probably answered yes,  and i suspect that an even larger number of people quit reading after  "fireworky".  Those of you who are choosing to stick with it, I applaud your efforts,  honestly even I am having a hard time keeping up at this point, but being completely lost in my own conversation  has never hindered me from making a point, even if I can't quite remember why I started talking in the first place...... I blame "fireworky"... It was the stick in the spokes of this conversation bicycle but it made me laugh so I left it in, then proceeded to  use it three more times because, well just because it made me laugh.
